Columbus police released video footage of a fight and robbery near the Ohio State University campus last month, and Central Ohio Crime Stoppers is offering a reward for information on the suspects.

On Oct. 17, in the 1700 block of High Street, four strangers attacked three people getting out of an Uber, Johnson said.

The encounter began with a verbal altercation, then one of the suspects threw an object at one of the victims, Johnson said. One of the victims approached the suspects and was beaten.

The video shows a suspect, a young man wearing a red hood, pull out an iron and hit several people.

The suspects also kicked one of the victims in the face while he was on the ground.

While the victim was on the ground, a suspect also stole items from his pockets.

The three victims, who police have not identified, suffered bruises and lacerations but are expected to make a full recovery. Two of them were students at Ohio State University.

Detective Shawn Perrigo said it was unclear if a robbery was the initial motive, adding that it was suspected one of the attackers was carrying a tire iron in the first place.

“I don’t think a suspect in a red hoodie just finished changing a tire,” Perrigo said. “I mean, here he is, 11:30 at night, in front of a busy bar, restaurant area.”

Johnson did not provide a dollar figure for the reward, saying it would depend on how many suspects were arrested and ultimately depend on the Crime Stoppers of Central Ohio board of directors. Any information provided to Crime Stoppers leading to an arrest or indictment in this case will be rewarded.

“Whether you have additional video, whether you have photos, or you think it might be somebody’s relative, somebody’s friend, any information you have, big or small, can help us solve this case,” Johnson said.
