Man jailed for armed robbery at Cross Lanes store

A man who was convicted of a July 2023 robbery at a Cross Lanes store was jailed this week.

Camri White, 26, of Cross Lanes, was sentenced to 25 years in prison followed by five years of supervised release for robbery, discharging a weapon during a violent crime and being a felon in possession of a firearm , according to a press release from the European Commission. US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia.

White was found guilty of robbing a Cross Lanes convenience store shortly before 5:15 a.m. on July 11, 2023, while armed with a handgun.

Prosecutors said White entered the business wearing a mask and fired a round from his handgun into the ceiling. He then held two employees at gunpoint and ordered them to give him money, the news release said.

White told the employees as he was leaving that he would come back and kill them if they called the police in the next 10 minutes, according to prosecutors.

Officers were able to use surveillance video from nearby businesses to identify White, and he was arrested six days later.

The court cited White’s criminal record in sentencing him and agreed with prosecutors that “the only thing that will determine his next violent crime revealed appears to be his release date,” the news release said.

White had a previous first-degree robbery conviction in 2017, in which he pleaded guilty for his role in a home invasion in which he held an 84-year-old woman at gunpoint with a sawed-off shotgun, prosecutors said.
