(ABC 6 News) – Election judges spent all day Thursday recounting ballots in a race that could determine control of the Minnesota House.

Scott County’s District 54A recount was triggered automatically because the results were so close, with Democrat Brad Tabke holding a 14-vote lead over Republican Aaron Paul.

After Thursday, Tabke saw his lead increase by one to 15 votes. Four votes were contested by both sides and will be decided on Monday by the County Council of Colportage.

“The challenges are all about voter intent. Often what we see with the process is that something is recorded as an undervote or a negative vote, but maybe someone filled in their ballot with a pencil and made a tick instead of an oval. Things like that,” said Julie Hanson, Scott County’s director of elections.

After the Caucus Council meets on Monday, Republicans will have a week to challenge the results.
