Bail set at 0,000 for man accused of Las Vegas robbery | courts

A judge has set bail at $500,000 for a man accused of over 30 burglaries in the Spring Mountain corridor, mostly at Asian restaurants and stealing more than $213,000.

Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Rebecca Saxe found probable cause to arrest 34-year-old Cedric Hasan at a hearing Wednesday morning. She noted before setting bail that while he has a nonviolent criminal record and a job, he also has a history of burglaries.

Hasan faces 34 counts of burglary of a business, second or subsequent offense and one count of theft over $100,000.

If he posts bail, she ordered him to be subject to high-level electronic monitoring and to undergo a source hearing to examine where the bail money came from. He must also stay away from the businesses he is accused of victimizing if he is released.

The string of burglaries, which mostly targeted Asian restaurants, began in June, according to police.

In October, the FBI offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Michelle Jobe said Hasan’s cell phone rang during some of the burglaries that allowed law enforcement to find him. She said Hasan’s car’s GPS system also indicated he was present at all but two of the break-ins.

According to Jobe, Hasan has prior felony convictions and a history of commercial theft. In one 2019 case, he continued to commit business burglaries while on probation. His probation was revoked and he went to jail, she said.

After a prison sentence in a 2021 case, she said, he completed a Hope for Prisoners program, received job training and was placed in an $87-an-hour welding job.

Police previously said the burglary suspect would cover his face and wear large gloves that resembled welding gloves.

A search of Hasan’s home Tuesday turned up “corroborating evidence,” including a crowbar and gloves similar to those seen in surveillance video, Jobe said.

Jobe asked that Hasan be held on $2.5 million bail, with high-level electronic monitoring and an order to stay away from the break-in locations, plus Spring Mountain Road between Interstate 15 and Jones Boulevard. She also called for a source hearing on whether Hasan posts bail.

Public defender Josie Bayudan said Hasan has no history of violence and is not a flight risk. He has a job and lives with his children and their mother, she said.

According to Jobe, Hasan has another burglary case pending at a North Las Vegas business.

Bayudan asked that Hasan’s bail be set at $10,000 with high-level electronic monitoring.

At a 2022 Hope for Prisoners graduation ceremony, Hasan spoke about pursuing a better future.

“My long-term goals are to establish a career, reconnect with my family — basically be the best version of me and keep building,” he said at the time. “I’m not perfect, but I will always work on myself and remain a law-abiding citizen.”
