MUSCADINE FARMS — Dec. 3, 2024 will mark four years since Zeb Hughes of Wesson and Gunner Palmer of Hazlehurst set out in search of ducks on the Mississippi River. They never returned and have yet to be found.

Hughes would have turned 25 this year and Palmer would have turned 20. Only their boat and some hunting gear was found. In the years since their demise, MDWFP has named a youth waterfowl camp the Gunner Palmer Memorial Youth Waterfowl Hunt.

Applications for Camp 2025 they are open again until December 15th. The camp will be held February 6-9, 2024 at Muscadine Farms Wildlife Management Area. Ducks Unlimited helps you with the program.

The camp’s mission is to recruit new waterfowl hunters, increase support for wetland conservation and waterfowl hunting, and retain hunters. Young people between the ages of 13 and 15 are encouraged to apply.

Due to limited space, only 12 youth spots are open. Applications will be ranked based on application content and young people will be notified if they are selected shortly after applications close.

No previous hunting experience is necessary, however, a willingness to learn about waterfowl, wetland ecology and hunting is required. Meals and accommodation are provided for campers and staff.

Email the application to [email protected] or you can fax a hard copy of the application to 601-432-2203.
