Harris is taking the abortion rights message from trusty red Texas nationally

As the presidential race winds down, Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump have been criss-crossing the nation, hitting swing states and working for every last vote.

Although Texas hasn’t endorsed a Democratic candidate for president since 1976, that’s not stopping Harris from trying to win over voters.

Harris’ rally in Houston on Friday focused on reproductive rights and the dangers she says Trump would pose to abortion access if re-elected president.

“Texas, what’s happening in this state and our country is a health crisis,” she said. “And Donald Trump is the architect of it.”

“Let’s be clear, if Donald Trump wins again, he will ban abortion nationwide,” Harris warned.

“We are eleven days away from an election that will decide the future of America, including every woman’s freedom to make decisions about her own body,” Harris said.

Superstar singer Beyoncé appeared on stage with Harris at the rally, the latest injection of star power into the vice president’s campaign.

“We’re all part of something much bigger,” the singer said. “We need to vote and we need you.”

Meanwhile, Trump rallied supporters in Austin on Friday. He took exception to Harris’ policies on the southern border and repeated his claims that illegal immigration has turned the US into a “trash bin for the world.”

Trump also addressed a federal judge’s decision to restore more than 1,600 Virginia voter records that he said were illegally purged. At his rally today, Trump claimed without evidence that Harris was involved in that decision.

“Getting illegal voters off the voting rolls should be a high priority for this country,” Trump said. “And yet we are scorned by a judge. This is blatantly un-American and election interference, and Kamala Harris is very much behind it.”

Trump also joined podcast host Joe Rogan for a taping of “The Joe Rogan Experience.” Trump has appeared on several other podcasts as part of his efforts to drum up support from young people.

Surveys remain blocked

Numbers from the latest New York Times/Siena College poll shows Harris and Trump tied in the popular vote, 48% to 48%. The poll of more than 2,500 likely voters nationwide was conducted between October 20 and October 23.

The poll shows 15 percent of voters said abortion was the No. 1 issue. 1 in this election. Only the economy ranked higher among the top issues.

Among voters who said abortion was the top issue, 55 percent of voters said they supported Harris, compared to 40 percent who said Trump.
