Mifflin Officials OK Store Plans | News, Sports, Jobs

LEWISTOWN — Mifflin County has seen significant growth in recent years.

Now, it will gain two new businesses, thanks to approvals made by county officials Thursday.

During his meeting, Mifflin County Planning Director Jim Lettiere presented seven plans to the Planning Commission under the city ordinance: two minor subdivisions, one major subdivision, one lot addition and three non-residential land development projects.

One of the approved plans would bring a Wawa gas station to Derry Township.

The plan calls for the development of a 6,049-square-foot gas station and convenience store with eight fuel pumps.

The building will be located along Ferguson Valley Road, west of and adjacent to US Highway 322 and northwest of the intersection of Valley Meadow Drive and approximately 526 feet from the intersection of Reserve Lane and Ferguson Valley Road.

This area was previously used as a staging area for the development of the Primary Health Network Facility, which is located east of where they will build this new gas station.

The plan calls for 71 parking spaces and four ADA compliant spaces.

Lettiere says the architects hope to be open by next football season.

“There are no anticipated adverse effects as additional traffic volumes will be increased here on this site,” he said.

The commission also approved an O’Reilly Auto Parts store, consisting of a one-story, pre-engineered metal building containing 7,225 square feet. The plan would include the creation of a paved parking lot containing 38 parking spaces and two handicap accessible spaces.

This building will be constructed after the demolition of the AT&T store currently on that property.

The other projects approved at the meeting included

• An application to develop non-residential land at Cedar Grove School, Armagh Township;

•An application to add a lot to East Kish Presbyterian Church, Brown Township;

•A request for major subdivisions on four lots for use of existing forest in Granville Township on parcels northeast of Peach Orchard Road, south of the Union Township boundary line, west of Camp Road and north of Ferguson Valley Road. The parent parcel contains a detached single-family house. The plan also creates an additional batch to add. No new development was proposed;

•An application for a minor subdivision of tax parcels 17, 09-4110XA,000 and 16, 04-0110B-000, divided between the townships of Granville and Derry, containing 68.52 acres. The plan creates much for a single-family residence to be served by a private and private well. The plan does not include any new development;

•A minor subdivision application on tax parcels 18.07-0114-000, containing 115 acres. The plan creates a second lot of 1.34 acres containing an existing single-family home served by a private on-site sewage disposal system and a private water source. The parcel is located north and south of Front Mountain Road, east of Pine Lane, west of SweetWater Lane.
