Georgia Secretary of State’s office denies cyber attack on absentee voter website

The Georgia Secretary of State’s office has repelled a cyberattack against its website that allows for absentee ballot requests.

The cyber attack was likely from a foreign nation, according to the secretary’s office. Fox News reported.

The bureau’s cyber team was notified of a dramatic increase in attempts to access the state’s absentee voting portal on October 14. The portal was slowed, but not stopped.

“(The event) had the hallmarks of a foreign power or a foreign entity working at the behest of a foreign power,” the secretary of state’s chief operating officer, Gabriel Sterling, said Wednesday.

The cyber attack was stopped “thanks to robust safeguards in place”, he added.
