Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver aggravates quad injury

CLEVELAND — Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Van Jefferson aggravated a quad injury against the Cleveland Browns. It happened on the team’s first play, when Jefferson hauled a four-yard pass over midfield and then was hit right back in his own quarterback.

Jefferson finally he returned, but his workload dropped significantly over the next few quarters. He entered the game dealing with a quad injury, and Jefferson had been dealing with the injury for several weeks.

In the locker room after the game, Jefferson was limping heavily. Head coach Mike Tomlin didn’t mention any injuries in his postgame press conference, but Jefferson was clearly hurt and had trouble playing fully the rest of the game.

The Steelers played a mix of Mike Williams, Ben Skowronek and Calvin Austin III more in his spots. It’s not known how much practice time or even games Jefferson would miss if the injury becomes too bothersome for him to play in 10 days in Cincinnati.
