Mukhiya murder in Sitamarhi: Details emerge of brutal shooting over old rivalries | Patna News

Patna: Mukhiya of Kachor panchayat of Sonbarsa block in Sitamarhi district was shot dead by unidentified bike-borne assailants while he was driving his car late on Wednesday night.
His wife and dog, who were in the back seat of the car, escaped unharmed, police said.
According to the police, the incident took place in the area of the Riga police station when Mukhiya Madhurendra Kumaralias Munna Mishra (50), was returning to his residence in Sitamarhi town of his native Kachor village, 25 km away.
“On his way to his residence in the town of Sitamarhi, an SUV overtook his car near the village of Hariharpur, barely 500 meters from the picket point of the Riga police station on the National Highway-77. The criminals in the SUV threw a brick at the windshield of the car, breaking it. The car lost control and stopped. Then four assailants on two bikes started shooting at him. He was shot five to six times in the stomach as well, resulting in his death on the spot,” said Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Sitamarhi Sadar-I, Shri Ramkrishna.
His wife informed family members and the police about the incident.
The SDPO said six to seven people appeared to be involved in the murder. “They were in an SUV and on two bikes. Prima facie, Mishra was killed because of old enmities. He had enmity with many locals because of his political career. He drew up criminal cases against several people at the Sonbarsa police station. While, some cases of attempted murder, destruction of public property and obstruction of government activity were also registered against him at the Sonbarsa police station,” said the SDPO.
The body was sent for post-mortem examination to the Sadar hospital, where a large number of supporters also gathered. His last rites were performed in his native village on Thursday.
Mishra, who was the mukhiya of Kachor panchayat for the last two terms, is also survived by a son and a daughter.
