Fatal accident Berkeley Co. was caused by law enforcement pursuit, troopers say

BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) – The South Carolina Highway Patrol says a one-car crash was the end result of a pursuit with law enforcement.

The crash happened around 9:40 p.m. Wednesday on US-52 near Highway 17A, a little more than a mile away from Moncks Corner.

Troopers say a 2018 Chevy Malibu was traveling southbound on Highway 17A when it went off the left side of the road and struck a utility pole.

Berkeley County Coroner Darnell Hartwell said the driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office are both working to investigate the collision.

The coroner’s office has not yet released the identity of the driver.
