Teacher and her husband assault school resource officer in meeting about son’s behavior

DELTONA, Fla. (WKRC) – A couple was arrested Tuesday morning after authorities say they assaulted a school resource officer during a meeting about their son’s behavior.

Elementary teacher Dagmarie Aponte and her husband, Jorge Rivera, attended the meeting with the resource officer because their son was accused of pushing a girl at school on Monday, according to FOX35.

Volusia Sheriff uploaded the body camera footage her is Instagram and more users, including Police cam videos uploaded the footage to YouTube.

Police said during the meeting Rivera became irate and was asked to leave. Then, in the hallway, Aponte allegedly pushed the resource officer against the wall while Rivera punched her in the head, knocking her to the ground, according to FOX35.

Rivera then stole the resource officer’s taser, but the officer drew his firearm and forced Rivera to drop the weapon. The school resource officer was hospitalized for concussion symptoms.

Both parents faced multiple charges, including battery on a law enforcement officer. Rivera also faced charges of armed robbery, grand theft and hate crime enhancements after allegedly using a derogatory slur during the attack.

Aponte was released from jail Tuesday night on bail. Rivera remains in custody at the Volusia Jail.
