AU clarifies position on recruitment outsourcing

Chennai: After facing a backlash against a circular directing deans and heads of departments to Anna University to recruit temporary faculty members and non-teaching staff through outsourcing, the university has issued a revised circular saying that only non-teaching staff will be recruited through outsourcing. A statement from the university on Friday claimed that the earlier circular was issued in error.
“According to the resolution passed by the union and finance committee, the recruitment of non-teaching faculty members through outsourcing has been approved. However, Anna University never took the decision to appoint faculty members through outsourcing,” Anna University Registrar J Prakash said. release.
He said the mistake occurred due to oversight while issuing the circular to university departments and campuses.
In a circular dated November 20, Anna University announced that new employment of temporary teaching and non-teaching staff on daily wages or consolidated wages should be done only through an employment agency.
The circular also says that the authorities should be informed about the surplus of temporary staff so that they can be allocated to other departments where manpower is needed.
PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss welcomed the announcement of Anna University. He said the revised circular was a victory for the PMK, which condemned the move to recruit temporary faculty through outsourcing.
However, he said that the university administration is trying to cover up the issue by saying that the announcement to recruit teachers through outsourcing was just a mistake.
