AUS vs IND: Amid intense IPL auction planning, Rahul Dravid keeps track of Perth Test scores

Former India head coach Rahul Dravid, who is now serving as the head coach of Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL), was seen looking forward after the national team’s first Test against Australia. A franchise-laden video featured Dravid watching the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy opener while attending Rajasthan Royals’ planning session ahead of the much-anticipated mega-auction.

Dravid, who stepped down as India’s head coach following the team’s historic triumph in the 2024 T20 World Cup, remains deeply connected to the national team. Even in his new role, he has shown keen interest in India’s performance during what is a critical series for their final World Test Championship aspirations.

India faced a stern challenge on Day 1 of the Perth Test. After electing to bat first, the batting line-up faltered under relentless pressure from Australia’s disciplined bowling attack. Senior players Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal struggled to build meaningful partnerships and KL Rahul fell victim to an unfortunate dismissal. Amidst the collapse, Rishabh Pant’s 37 and debutant Nitish Kumar Reddy’s 47 put India on course for a total of 150. Josh Hazlewood was instrumental for Australia, delivering a devastating spell of 4/29.

However, India’s bowlers have turned the tide. Stand-in skipper Jasprit Bumrah led the charge with a superb spell of 4/17, dismantling Australia’s top order. Bumrah’s fiery bowling set the tone for a remarkable comeback, while Mohammed Siraj (2/17) and debutant Harshit Rana (1/33) provided valuable support. Their collective efforts restricted Australia to 67/7 at stumpsleaving the match well set for Day 2.

Despite transitioning to the IPL once again, Dravid’s interest in the team’s progress reflects the depth of his connection with the players he once coached. As India mount a remarkable fightback under Bumrah, the Perth Test promises to remain an enthralling contest as the series unfolds.
