Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office receives new ballistics news for K-9

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) received new ballistics reports on its two K-9s, Ioni and Sodder.

On November 21, the vests were donated to the JCSO by an organization called Protect the Paws.

Protect the Paws is a 501 (C)(3) non-profit charity in Miami, Florida. The charity was founded by four women in 2011 after reading an article about a child who asked her family and friends to donate a police K.-9 bulletproof vest. The kid asked for this for their birthday.

The women, moved by the article, decided to do their part to protect K-9s. Protect the Paws has raised funds for 161 vests supporting 43 law enforcement agencies in eight states.

The JCSO, in a statement, said how important this news is in protecting their valuable K-9s.

K-9s Sodder and Ioni are valuable assets to JCSO,” JCSO said in a statement. “They serve not only as search dogs for drugs, persons and illicit items, but also provide protection for their partners as well as for other officers on the scene. They are often placed in potentially dangerous and volatile situations, and these vests will provide them with the protection they need for the jobs they perform.Having these vests also brings a trust and an assurance of their safety to the partners who work with them every day. Deputy Bradley Shell is partnered with K-9 Sodder and Investigator Corey Lowery is partnered with K-9 Ioni.”
