Over 10,000 troops to be sent to Manipur amid fresh violence

Center to send 90 more companies of central forces to Manipur

The Center will send over 10,000 more troops to ethnic violence-hit Manipur, taking the total number of companies of central forces to 288 in neighboring Myanmar, the state’s chief security adviser said today.

With the addition of 90 companies, or about 10,800 personnel of the central forces, the total number of companies deployed in Manipur has reached 288, Manipur Security Adviser Kuldiep Singh told reporters in the state capital Imphal.

“We are receiving 90 companies of forces. A considerable part has already reached Imphal. We have deployed forces to protect civilian lives and property and monitor vulnerable areas and spots,” Mr Kuldiep said.

“All areas will be covered in a few days. We have made arrangements without fail. New coordination cells and joint control rooms will be set up in every district. We have reviewed the ones that are already functioning,” he said.
