Stocks are packed, with Nvidia setting the tone

The stock market returns to Thursday morning trading amid a choppy start for Nvidia following its latest earnings report.

After the three major indexes opened higher, they struggled to hold on to gains. The Dow was the best performer with a gain of 65 points, or 0.2%, after briefly dipping into negative territory. The S&P 500 fell 0.1%. The Nasdaq Composite fell 0.5 percent.

The biggest story of the day is Nvidia, which was rocked as traders tried to make sense of its latest report. Bespoke Investment Group co-founder Paul Hickey points out that the options market has priced in an 8% move in either direction today after last night’s report. It would be a $300 billion market cap if Nvidia moved that far.
