Chase in stolen vehicle through orchard leads to man’s arrest

A man was arrested for theft in Los Banos after leading police on a chase, the Los Banos Police Department said.

According to the LBPD, around 8:40 Thursday night, officers received a report of a stolen vehicle and burglary at a shed in the 300 block of I Street.

Shortly after officers received a report of shots fired in the area of ​​South 11th Street and Pioneer.

An officer saw a suspicious truck driving along the shoulder of Pioneer Road.

Police say the pickup truck backed up, resulting in what they say were gunshots.

When the officer attempted to stop the pickup, the driver continued to drive away and enter an orchard at a high rate of speed.

The pickup then hit a tree in the orchard and the driver got out and continued to run.

The officer continued to chase the man until he finally caught him.

The man has been identified as Abel Salinas Jr., 42, of Los Banos.

Police determined that the pickup truck was the stolen vehicle that officers had taken a previous report on.

Salinas was registered at the Police Department for vehicle theft, burglary and possession of stolen property.
