Judge denies DA’s request to postpone hearing in Walmart shooting case

A district court judge is scheduled to hear arguments in a landmark hearing on Oct. 31 El Paso Walmart mass shooting case will continue or be postponed for 30 days.

Judge Sam Medrano of the 409th District Court will preside over a hearing Thursday, Oct. 24 at 1:30 p.m. on allegations by El Paso District Attorney Bill Hicks and his prosecution team that the judge improperly communicated with representative defense attorneys. the gunman, 26-year-old Patrick Crusius.

Hicks is seeking a 30-day delay for a hearing set for Thursday, Oct. 31, on several recently filed motions regarding the handling of substantial evidence involved in the case.

A district court judge has denied the El Paso district attorney’s request to delay a key hearing on allegations of misconduct against the district attorney’s office. Judge Sam Medrano denied El Paso District Attorney Bill Hicks’ request for a 30-day delay for an Oct. 31 hearing. regarding the lawyers’ motion claiming that the prosecution committed “scandalous misconduct. Medrano ruled that the hearing will not be adjourned and the court will continue moving the case, which has been delayed for more than 5 years.

Bomb-sniffing dogs search for equipment as security tightens for the hearing at the Enrique Moreno Tribunal. Although the public cannot attend in person, they can connect via live stream (video above). More than a dozen sheriff’s deputies, bailiffs, state troopers and other law enforcement officers are stationed around the fourth floor, where the hearing is taking place. All doors on the fourth floor are closed except for the main doors near the elevator.
