21-year-old probationer now faces federal charges in shooting of Nashville officer

NASHVILLE, Tenn.–The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) reports that a 21-year-old man is now facing federal charges after shooting a MNPD officer Tuesday morning.

MNPD reports that Knykholas Lane was already on probation for aggravated burglary when police responded to the 700 block of Lewis Street on Tuesday for a call that an armed man was breaking into a woman’s home. Responding officers ordered him to stop, but Lane fled on foot and pointed a gun at an officer, firing. The officer responded by hitting Lane twice.

Lane suffered non-life threatening injuries and was booked into the Metro Jail after being treated. He faces a charge of aggravated assault on a police officer and also had outstanding warrants for his arrest on domestic assault and false imprisonment charges. If convicted of the current crime, he faces up to 15 years in federal prison.
