UOG’s Cooking, Healthy Aging series will return in December | News

Adults of all ages are invited to a six-session wellness class focused on anti-aging and healthy cooking.

Back by popular demand earlier this year, the series combines the Nihi ta Fanmama’tinas (Let’s Cook) curriculum and the Keys to Healthy Aging programs taught by the University of Guam Cooperative Extension and Outreach.

The classes will take place between 4 and 7 p.m. on December 2, 4, 6, 11, 16 and 18, in the Agriculture and Life Sciences building, Room 125B, on the UOG campus.

Led by Extension Associates Clarissa Barcinas, Katrina Macasaquit and Iesha Ibanez and Family and Consumer Science Specialist Tim de La Cruz, each class will cover a cooking topic and a healthy aging topic according to the following schedule:

Monday, December 2

  • Cooking theme: Let Chesa!
  • Wellness Topic: Positive Attitude and Smart Eating

Wednesday, December 4

  • Cooking Theme: Let’s Bake!
  • Wellness theme: Physical activity and brain activity

Friday, December 6

  • Cooking theme: Let’s make soup and salad!
  • Wellness theme: Social activity and adapting to the times

Wednesday, Dec. 11

  • Cooking theme: Let’s cook on a budget
  • Wellness Topic: Practice Staying Safe and Know Your Health Numbers

Monday, Dec. 16

  • Cooking theme: Let’s cook breakfast!
  • Wellness Topic: Stress Management and Financial Affairs

Wednesday, Dec. 18

  • Cooking theme: Let’s cook locally!
  • Wellness topic: Sleep and take time for yourself

Each session has a $10 registration fee, which covers workshop materials and food samples.

Participants are encouraged to sign up for all six sessions.
