Security guard assaulted at Albertsons in West El Paso

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — One person is in custody after an alleged shoplifter assaulted a security guard Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 19, at an Albertsons in West El Paso, according to El Paso police.

Police say they responded just after 12pm to the Albertson’s on Mesa Street and Resler Drive for what they are calling an aggravated robbery.

One person is in custody. The El Paso Fire Department initially said the security guard was stabbed, but later said the person was cut in the incident.

The security guard was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

An EPISD spokesperson sent a statement to KTSM after Coronado High School was placed on suspension protocol. That statement is as follows:

“This afternoon, Coronado High School was briefly placed on a HOLD protocol as a precaution due to an incident that occurred in the vicinity of campus. El Paso ISD Police promptly assessed the situation and the HOLD was lifted after the incident was cleared.
Students and staff remained safe throughout the HOLD. Classes have since resumed as normal and the campus is operating according to its regular schedule.
