Bill Clinton hoping for a ‘deathbed conversion’ of Trump

The former president Bill Clinton said Late Show host Stephen Colbert this week that he still hoped that the president-elect Donald Trump he would undergo a “deathbed conversion” and change his behavior.

During one interview with Clinton standing The late showon Tuesday, Colbert asked, “The Supreme Court, since you left, has said that the president enjoys immunity for his deeds. If you had known that when you were in office, would you have changed anything?”

“Let me just say that that opinion, in my opinion, should be repealed or severely limited,” Clinton replied:

And if you want it changed, you probably just have to elect someone else in the next election, and the Supreme Court will change it so fast it will make your head spin. I’m pretty sure if something really bad happened the Supreme Court would make another distinction, otherwise our Constitution was essentially suspended and we wouldn’t have the rule of law.

Clinton then said, “You know, I was raised in the Baptist church and I believe in deathbed conversions, so I still believe that, you know, President Trump could be like Paul. on the road at Tarsus (sic). And think how wonderful that would be.”

As the audience erupted in laughter, Clinton looked serious, adding: “Seriously. If he wanted to be.”

“That would be awesome,” Colbert replied.

The former president concluded: “So I always think that in something like this, you have to plan for the worst and work for the best.”
