Police in St James are investigating the murder of a construction worker

ST JAMES, Jamaica — Detectives assigned to the St James Police Division are investigating the circumstances surrounding the killing of a construction worker who was shot at work by a group of armed bandits on Thursday morning.

The deceased has been identified as 52-year-old bricklayer Donovan Hayles, also known as ‘Pepper’, of Green Pond, St James.

Reports say that around 9:30am Hayles went to a house located on Campbell’s Lane, Mount Salem in the parish to repair a step when he was accosted by a group of armed men who opened fire on him.

Hayles was shot multiple times in the upper body and died at the scene.

The motive behind the deadly attack has not been established.
