Woman allegedly caught stealing over ,000 at Walmart

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A woman was arrested after police say she was under the influence while trying to steal more than $1,000 worth of items from Walmart.

According to the Wilkes-Barre Township Police Department, on Oct. 24 at approximately 2:30 p.m., 40-year-old Diana Alai was caught shoplifting $1,234.65 worth of merchandise from Walmart.

Police say Alai was found to be under the influence, and officers seized suspected crystal meth found in a pill bottle with her name on it in a stolen purse.

The day before, officers reported Alai was arrested around 12:34 a.m. on suspicion of shoplifting, then again after she was found under the influence in public outside Big Lots at 4:16 p.m.

Later, around 7:39 p.m., Alai was taken to the hospital after being found under the influence in the Wilkes-Barre Township Commons, where police said she “couldn’t even form a sentence or sit on her own.”

Alai was arraigned and then taken to the Luzerne County Correctional Facility on $5,000 bail.
