The Rosedale-Grandmont community is coming together to search for the alleged burglar

Residents of a Detroit neighborhood want their community back. A woman is said to have invaded the area, allegedly breaking into vehicles and houses. A neighbor posted her pictures on social media so everyone could be careful.

Sylvia Riggins has lived in the Rosedale-Grandmont section of Detroit for nearly a decade and says all was well in her neighborhood until recently. In fact, Riggins says she’s now a victim.

“My car was stolen from in front of my house. About three to four months ago, it was parked right where my gray car is,” Riggins said.

This carjacking comes as a FOX 2 viewer claims criminal activity has been sweeping this neighborhood for the past three months. They posted several pictures on social media and wrote:

Neighborhood thief! This is the woman who breaks into cars. He stole a gun from someone’s car last week! She is officially armed and dangerous!

FOX 2 caught up with Detroit Police and they say an investigation has been launched.

“We’re on it. I’ve assigned it to my B&E team and we’re looking at it right now,” said Commander Dietrich Lever.

Investigators say it’s critical that people who recognize this woman come forward.

“I’m going to coin my new police chief’s catchphrase. We’re better together,” Lever said. “So what I want to do is reach out to the community and make sure they come with us when they see something, say something, so we can do something about it.”

Police clarify if you see the woman, do not approach her.

“It’s scary. It looks like someone is walking around with a gun, brandishing a gun, and is in one of our star communities,” he continued.

Those residents, speaking out, say they hope their neighbors will take precautions to keep their property safe.

“To think that everybody will be a little bit more vigilant knowing that this is happening in our neighborhood and I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out,” said concerned resident Bonnie White.

If you can help investigators locate the suspect, contact police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-Speakup.

“I have seven people in my special operations that will be looking for her,” Lever said. “Let’s hope we can have her in custody tonight.”
